Shockone shockwaves across Australia

So. Tell us about yourself. How did you first get into DnB?

I think it was around 99-00 when I got into drum and bass. At the time I was playing in a metal band with Rob and Gareth from Pendulum. We all kind of discovered the sound together. I was going to ware house parties and club shows. I think the first international I saw was Bad Company and that really blew me away. Coming from a metal background, I think was attracted to DnB as opposed to other genres due to the similar dynamics it had to metal. Seeing as Rob had been producing electronic music for a while, he was the one who introduced me to trackers like Fast tracker 2 and Fruity loops.

Your first releases were on some pretty big labels such as Fiction's Shogun imprint and Andy C's Frequency. That's pretty big man?

Yeh I sometimes feel those releases were a little premature. Jay (ex Shockone member) and I were still really learning when those tunes got picked up. Silverscreen was only the 5th song we'd finished. The way we got on Shogun, was that Rob and Paul were playing Silverscreen at shows in UK and it was going down well. Friction heard it at a show and said whats that? they told him it was us and he contacted me about signing it. Similar thing happend with 'The Riddler'. I did the tune and sent it to Rob. He put it in his essential mix and heaps of people were asking about it, included was Andy C...

Your EP was absolutely Massive in the UK. Your tunes are rinsed by the biggest in the game. In both the DnB and Dubstep worlds. Do you find you get the same respect in Australia as you do in the UK?

Recently yes. Up until the EP came out no. Basically since Triple J put 'Polygon' on high rotation I have had a profile in Australia, up until then I found it very hard getting bookings around the country, apart from the epic wobble 1st birthday show though ;). I think it's just the different ways the Australian music scene works. The 'undergound' scene's here are just so small, however hugely dedicated, which I always appreciate when playing in Australia.

How's the Perth scene atm? You guys got some big lineup's over NYE?

Its going crazy over here at the moment. Even at the local nights decent crowds are attending. There seems to be a touring DJ every second week. Yeh we have a couple of big festivals coming up. LOW-FI in Oct will be massive with NAS, QBERT, TC and JAKES, NOISIA, CALYX and TEEBEE, COMMIX, MJ COLE, ZED BIAS and COKI all on the bill so far. Phetsta and myself are also getting great support from the perth heads, this Friday we are doing a 3 hour set together while also doing live visuals on stage. Probably bitten off more than we can chew, but we love a good challenge :P

Last few times you played in Melbourne you absolutely smashed the dance. What can we expect from you this time?

You can expect a lot of new tunes from myself that I will be testing out for my forthcoming album, a bunch of new remixes I've done, some VIP's of the EP tunes, a crap load of other new music Ive been sent from all over the place, as well as some dubstep and housey/electro/breaks/what ever the fuck you want to call it all bashed out on 3 decks as fast as I can ;D
